Description
Afforestation of 172,8 ha on suboptimal quality soils at two sites in the Paraná basin in Paraguay. Prior to this project, these lands were used for extensive cattle ranching and, in the absence of the project, would maintain that use.
The project design is highly innovative, as it uses fast-growing non-native plants (Eucalyptus grandis) to condition the land and shade it before its harvest, with a view to incorporate a mix of native plants that will not be harvested. The final result of this project will be a forest of native plants in former pastures.
POMERA has 20 years of experience in the forestry sector, operating with great social and environmental sensitivity. This afforestation project is being certified by the FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) and takes into account the Good Forestry Practices suggested by the Paraguayan authorities to avoid negative impacts on biodiversity, local communities, and the water balance.
